Vacancy Announcement: Business Representative for the United School Employees of Pasco

The United School Employees of Pasco (AFT Local 3600) is accepting applications for the position of USEP Business Representative.  This is a 206-day/10 month position with the annual salary being prorated throughout the year over twenty-six bi-weekly pay periods.  The position will have primary responsibility for the central and east side of Pasco County, FL.

The USEP is a wall-to-wall public sector union that represents teachers and education staff professionals (bus drivers, instructional assistants, food & nutrition, custodial, secretaries, etc.) in Pasco County, Florida.  The USEP is a growing organization with over 3,200 member and 75 worksites.

USEP is now seeking applicants with the anticipated start date of August 2015.

General Duties: Represent union members in the resolution of problems, grievances; work to improve salaries, economic benefits and working conditions for bargaining unit members through the collective bargaining process; promote membership in USEP; provide information and resource materials for members; organize member and potential members, assist in the training of building representatives; and work effectively and cooperatively with the USEP president, officers, executive board members, local union members and staff.

Required Qualifications: High school graduate, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of public employee unions and public sector collective bargaining, self-motivated, ability to work effectively with others.

Desired Qualifications: Advanced degree, experience in conflict resolution, consensus building, organizing, and problem solving,  Ability to analyze budgets, interpret laws and regulations, computer skills, desk-top publishing, mentoring/coaching and/or training experience, political lobbying experience, education background, bilingual.

Salary and Benefits: Based upon 8-hour day, 206 days per year. The salary for this position is based upon the schedule specified in the USEP Staff Master Contract. The base level is $42,900, with additional steps granted for advanced degrees, direct experience and valued (related) experience and skills. Medical, dental and life insurance; retirement, and leave provisions as defined in the USEP/UAW Master Contract.
