USEP Update Correction
In the Union’s “Coronavirus Update†of this past Friday, August 7th, there was a brief description of how teachers would have to “make up†the time lost due to the 2-week delay in starting school. There was also a reference to SRP not being impacted “since they are hourly employeesâ€. This is actually incorrect since SRP are also being paid on August 21st (in advance of any work performed) so there will also be a requirement to make up this time. We apologize for any confusion caused by our error in reporting last Friday.
On another note, USEP continues to advocate for a “virtual†start to this school year and in order to continue emphasizing this message, we are asking that all members send an email to the following District and State Administrators:
Governor Ron DeSantis | GovernorRonDesantis@eog.myflorida.com |
Commissioner of Education Richard Corcoran | commissioner@fldoe.org |
Superintendent Kurt Browning | ksbsos@pasco.k12.fl.us |
School Board Chair Colleen Beaudoin | crbeaudo@pasco.k12.fl.us |
School Board Member Alan Altman | alaltman@pasco.k12.fl.us |
School Board Member Megan Harding | mharding@pasco.k12.fl.us |
School Board Member Cynthia Armstrong | carmstro@pasco.k12.fl.us |
The message should politely but firmly state the rationale we’ve all been pushing which is we want a “safe return to the school year which can only be assured, at the present time, in a virtual environmentâ€. Add any personal thoughts you may have on this critical issue and that you are NOT against returning to school – just not in brick & mortar schools until there is a 14-day downward trend in coronavirus cases and a positivity rate of 5% or less.
Thank you.
